Steel Market 2012
From Tuesday 06 March 2012 -  09:00
To Wednesday 07 March 2012 - 17:00

The steel market will continue to grow

All the experts are agreed about one thing: the European steel industry is back on the growth track. Demand from the automotive industry and engineering sector is picking up again and the German construction industry has also recorded a good set of figures this year.

During the first six months of 2011 supplies to the German market were 17% up, while consumption in EU-27 was 13% higher. The international steel markets expect to see production levels increase by 1.6 bn tonnes in 2012 – a record rate of growth that is being driven by China and Brazil.

Yet the steel producers are still facing a number of challenges, including the EU energy and environmental targets and the ongoing increase in raw materials prices. Since the beginning of 2010 the price of fine ores has risen 200% and that of coking coal 145% - and further increases are anticipated.

The Handelsblatt annual conference will give you an opportunity to discuss all these dramatic developments with national and international key players

Conference themes

  • Figures, data and facts about the development of the global steel industry
  • Real and imaginary risks for the German steel industry
  • Sustainability: from fashion theme to competitive advantage
  • Trends in raw material prices
  • Pricing policy and pricing power in the steel market: Who is dictating prices to whom?
